APRIL 2017    YOU HELPED A FAMILY WITH THEIR NEW START “The mother was extremely moved by the support from the HCCEF.  Not only did it permit her to purchase necessities for herself and the children, but also the gesture was a clear message that she and her children are valued members of our community. The mother has been very communicative with both of the schools attended by her children and is increasingly open regarding the family’s struggles (they recently left an abusive relationship).  This expanding level of trust is assisting the children to settle into their new schools, which is […]

Reflections on the 24 Hour Fast

Published February 16, 2018

Made it – 24 Hours of Fasting….whew! I started at 7am yesterday. At noon yesterday….5 hours in… my stomach started growling, and I thought I might be in big trouble. Some of my reflections throughout the 24 hours were: I am choosing to not eat…many students and families have to choose between paying for rent/utilities and paying for food. The need to eat is a STRONG basic instinct. As the day went on, I found my thoughts often went to food and how much longer I have left before I can eat. Again, many students don’t have that choice…they may […]

JUNE 2017    YOU HELPED THE GONZALES FAMILY “Dear Halton Catholic Children’s Education Foundation, We would like to give you a huge thank you, you were helping us to go forward and without your help, the situation could be worse for our family. A few months ago, our house got fire and we had a difficult time. This situation was not easy to manage with our daughters; even we couldn’t sleep well, even now. FEBRUARY 2017    YOU HELPED THE CLINE FAMILY “Dear Halton Catholic Children’s Education Foundation, I write to you on behalf of my family to thank you for everything you do to help families like ours. When we received the news of our daughter’s cancer diagnosis we were absolutely devastated. In the months to follow things became increasingly harder to deal with as our family was slowly being pulled apart. We went from living a simple happy life to trying to hop back and forth between children and hospital/home. I was unable to work, as care was required 24 hours a […]
